Residents around Washoe County have been asking for a lands bill for Washoe County that is balanced and protects parks, open space, and wilderness. The Washoe County Commission will be holding a final open house for the Washoe public lands proposal. They want to hear your vision for the future of Washoe County.

With the demanding pressures of population growth and development, now is the time for a comprehensive lands bill that can help our community sustain our quality of life, increase recreational opportunities, protect and expand our parks, open space, and wilderness and promote economic opportunities.

I support protection for Buffalo Hills, Fox Range, Granite-Banjo, Massacre Rim, Macy, and Wall Canyon proposed wilderness areas.  These spectacular places are characterized by dramatic vistas, classic canyons, buttes, & rims, sweeping valley floors and upland meadows. They are also important habitat to iconic Nevada Wildlife.
 
Additionally it is vitally important we preserve and expand parks, trails, open space and recreational opportunities around Reno, Sparks, and all of Washoe County. With regards to the public land transfers, I believe it is important that Washoe County honors County and City zoning and planning protocols and not allow for development in areas that cannot withstand said growth or are in direct contradiction to open space zoning.
 
I urge you to work together to protect the wild wide-open spaces of Washoe County, expand parks and recreational opportunities, and promote economic development. We need your leadership for the future of Washoe County.
